You will be able to enjoy the night sky as it is the darkest in Western Europe. August is amazing with its shooting stars. The sky is bright with stars and the Milky Way is easily seen. Wildlife is plentiful and interesting. You can see some pictures  on the "Photos" page. Black Kites fly over the fields next to the house and we have an Owl who lives in our woods and likes  to visit the house. Closer to earth, wild boar, deer, squirrels, badgers and hares are often seen nearby in the fields.
Tennis - Touffailles 100m away-across the road.The village of Touffailles boasts a wonderful tennis court which guests are able to use free of charge.The garden area surrounding the court is wonderfully kept and there is an adjoining children’s play area.

 Horse riding  - Lauzerte is 9km away and has an excellent equestrian centre, Domaine Equestre de Lauzerte. Le Cheval Blanc equestrian centre 15km from Cruzel and has 25 years experience in the trade. There is a beautiful trekking centre at Lacour de Visa (15 minutes/10km), set in the most glorious rolling countryside, giving you the opportunity to ride amongst the wooded hills and valleys of the region. You can arrange a one or two hour ride or even half and full day rides. If you are coming on a short break and want to ride during your stay bookings can be  made in advance on your behalf. The riding school has a restaurant and it is possible to enjoy some traditional local cuisine and famous Cahors wine after your ride in a very relaxing and friendly atmosphere.

Walking/Cycling-For those that want to get out and about on bikes we have 4 bikes which you are welcome to borrow. We also can help to plan the route and some maps are available for you. Cruzel is situated in truly  beautiful countryside within easy reach of the Lot and Gorges of Averyon.It nestles into the hillside between canton Montaigu de Quercy and bastide town of Lauzerte. Nicknamed the Toledo of Quercy, Lauzerte is lovely bastide village that has a choice of restaurants, bars,  shops and markets (the Sunday morning market takes place in the medieval square amongst the many little cafes). Lauzerte is listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The countryside is superb for walking, part of the famous pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella passes nearby. Whether you want to do a day’s walking or take a gentle stroll, Cruzel is perfectly situated. 100 km of path for exploring the area on foot, bike or horse back cover the district; guide to the path is available from us.

Vineyards- There are many different vineyards to visit in the area and we keep a selection of details for you to consider  whilst you are staying. Domaine du Garinet at le Boulvé, Cave De Donzac, Cellier Du Brulhois in Layrac, Domaine de Lancement at Thezac. Near Bergerac you can find the famous sweet wine Chateau of Monbazillac.There’s both wine tasting and a guided tour of the beautiful chateau.
This style of sweet wine is great with fois gras.

Golf -Nearby, if enjoy a game of golf, there is 9 hole golf course at Sauveterre, of 5244 metres in a wooded valley with  water hazards and it is suitable for players of all standards. Slightly further away is the highly acclaimed 18 hole course at a beautiful town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Golf and Country Club. at Valance D’Agen there is a further 9 hole course Le Golf d'Espalais.

 Watersports-At Walibi Theme park at Agen  you will find an excellent leisure pool with slides and diving platforms, as well as a large lane swimming pool for the more serious swimmer. There is also a good water sports centre at St. Nicholas de la grave, with canoes, boats and pedalos for hire or why not stroll along the banks of the Tarn Garonne Rivers and enjoy the diversity of bird and wildlife? Although inland there are sandy beaches and waterslides at the nearby park de loisirs at Montcuq which also has a superb Sunday Market. Le Plan d’Eau des Chenes at Montaigu de Quercy, 10km away, has a leisure lake offering tennis, a children’s play area, boats, pedalos, basketball court. The lake is ideal for water lovers both young and old. There is a safe area for young ones to play in the water and plenty of opportunity for more adventurous swimmers with floating platforms and diving boards.There also are shaded picnic tables and a bar and restaurant with lovely terrace overlooking the beach.

 National parachute school-For the more adventurous type there is a parachute school at Bouloc, 2km way from Cruzel.The parachute school can arrange Tandem Jumps.

 Entertainment
Throughout the year, but especially in the summer, the villages are enlivened by concerts, plays, fetes and much more. Toulouse, with its historic centre and cosmopolitan range of shops, is  an hour drive away. For longer trips the gite is ideally situated: the Pyrenees, Basque country, Dordogne, Mediterranean, Atlantic coast are all within 2-3 hr range. Ideal facilities for couples, small parties off season, two families with children in high season and small groups.  This is an undiscovered part of France with so much to see and do. White stone traditional farmhouses, mills and chapels, green valleys and forests, splashes of red, ochre and gold in the fields of crops and orchards of fruits, the finishing touches of yellow sunflowers and amazingly blue sky. The narrow street of the local villages, old stone buildings, churches, fountains and the remains of castles, all bear witness to the history of the area.  Famous for its gourmet cuisine and breathtaking countryside, Quercy should not be missed.   We look forward to welcoming you at Cruzel!
